TURN THE TOWNS TEAL II Cervical Cancer Awareness

16 February 2019

CERVICAL CANCER IS A KILLER, YES !
BUT SO IS IGNORANCE AND SO IS APATHY !!!
...
Simply put, early detection saves lives!

Today, Jeevandayini Social Foundation has become a leading Public Benefit Organisation with a successful track record of result oriented initiatives in different functionalities. Taking our initiatives to next level, Jeevandayini organised the second edition of Cervical Cancer Awareness & Prevention Campaign in association with Sarvodaya Hospital & Research Centre and Dr O.P. Bhalla Foundation organized an enlightening session on Cervical Cancer Awareness" at Manav Rachna Educational Institutions on 16 February 2019.

In the lead upto the Cervical Cancer Awareness month, the session aimed at promoting a healthier and more balanced lifestyle for women.

An expert team of oncologists from Sarvodaya Hospital & Research Centre comprising Dr. Sumant Gupta, Senior Consultant, Medical Oncology; Dr. Shivam Vatsal, Consultant, Surgical Oncology; and Mrs. Sudha Murgai, President, Cancer Care India, and Director, ROKO Cancer Charitable Trust conducted the awareness drive.

Dr. Shivam Vatsal gave a presentation on ‘Cervical Cancer & Its Prevention’ apprising audience about the cervical cancer, related statistics, symptoms of cervical cancer, and prevention steps. He introduced PAP SMEAR and Colposcopy to the audience as well. He mentioned that getting vaccine till the age of sixteen comes with maximum benefits.

Considering Cervical Cancer totally preventable, Dr. Sumant Gupta said, “We ourselves can prevent cervical cancer”. He continued, “Vaccines can help us prevent cervical cancer to an extent, but PAP SMEAR as the first step is necessary”.

The Guest of Honour Mrs. Sudha Murgai shared life experiences about her forty year journey as a social worker and a cancer survivor herself, creating magnanimous waves of awareness. She motivated the audience to go for regular Pap Smears and emphasized on SAD: Smoking, Alcohol, and Diet. Smoking, Alcohol and bad diet need to be eradicated from one's lifestyle to be healthy and to reduce the extent of cancer.

"Turn The Towns Teal", the PAP Campaign which ran until 28February, 2019 proved to its purpose with many getting coupons for the PAP SMEAR test at Sarvodaya Hospital & Research Centre, Faridabad.

The response we received was overwhelming! We welcomed 85 women for Pap tests and 40 for Mammograms. A special note of thanks to Harness India Private Limited to extend the health benefit to the women employees of their organisation.

These figures show us that awareness initiatives of this kind do make a difference and are helping to eradicate a cancer that can be prevented.A clear sign that our messages about cervical cancer being preventable through Pap tests get across and empower women to beat the disease.

Words cannot express our gratitude!

On behalf of Jeevandayini, we wish to express our deepest thanks to respected Dr Rakesh Gupta ji, Dr Sumant Gupta & Dr Shivam Vatsal from Sarvodaya Hospital & Research Centre; Mrs Sudha Murgai ji, President, Cancer Care India & Smt Satya Bhalla ji, Chief Patron, Manav Rachna Educational Institutions for extending their significant and valued support and readiness to help with very prompt response to our requests through out the campaign.
